bit more done on the dogs. ALmost finished, just need to finish the foreground and add some highlights and shadows. Was alot of fun working on this, each dog has thier own personality. I sure hope I managed to capture it, even if only a small amount

Just a quick update with what i've been doing. Working on a dog commission for a dear friend. Here's what we got so far:

A bit more added tonight, the second horse. This painting makes me think of the three graces, which I think I will probably name it that. I have some idees for some differant elements I want to put in, and i just got a book on arabic calligraphy and arabian horse names, so I think ill have some fun with that..
So, i've decided to redo th e three horses painting. I just didn't like the blue-ish background. Im curious how this one is going to evolve.
Got some new stuff coming up. Still waiting to hear about the bull of the year commission. I have a juried art show im going to try and get in in August and an art contest in Dec. More to come on that later..
Tonights work... and I included a shot of my desk just fo S&G

Been awhile! With school, and spring coming I just haven't had time to really sit and work on anything. I finished the panel for the Glory of Horses project and got it mailed off last month, but otherwise i've not done anything...
However! Due to my wonderful friend, I am working on a new piece for the Pryamid Society and thier upcoming art auction. The proceeds go to support the Society. Fun stuff!! Im really excited to be a part of this. That being said, here is what I have so far...
Im doing stuff a bit differantly than I normally do. First of all, i've never done a textured...type of background like this before. Very unusual for me, reminds me of something impressionistic...my illustration professor would be so excited! Secondly, I did the entire background before i transfered my sketch over.... i actually like doing that better! Enjoy!

Fun new project! This is a huge canvas, 30x40 in. Because of its large size, I just did my sketch on the canvas itself. Generally i dont like to do this, as it can really make a mess later, but I didn't have much choice here. Im hoping to have a new camera in the next month or two, so Ill have clearer pictures then.
I had these three horses in my head for quite awhile. They are modeled after arabs, so they have finer features than you might find on most stock or heavier breeds. They look a little strange at the moment, but I think it will be interesting to see how they end up. The background is ok, though its not what I had envisioned and is likely to change through the course of the creation. I tried not to think to much abotu what I was doing, but rather just went with the flow. My arm sure got tired though!
It will likely be a few weeks before there is another update on this, as I have to wait for the background to dry. Typically anything with blue or white takes around 2 weeks to dry.
Enjoy!

I've finally completed this painting. I haven't thought of a name for it just yet. It reminds me so much of my little arab colt Johnny, who has become my muse of sorts. Prints will soon be available. The original will also be available to purchase in the near future. It feels good to be painting again!
I've started on my new project as well. Its going to be quite an undertaking, as its on a 28x40 in canvas. I've never done anything so large before. Once I finalize the sketch I'll have images of it up as well, hopefully in the next few days.
Time for a new camera as well!
